There have been several inconsistencies in studies and reports on the subject of health hazards and risks associated with telecommunications base stations.
While some reports say that, till date, no convincing evidence of telecoms masts causing diseases have been found (since the amount of radiation emitted by them remains very low), some other findings show that during the first three to five years of living in close proximity to a cell tower, there could be sleep disorders of various types occurring.
In Nigeria, the NCC published a fact sheet in 2017 that shows telecommunications masts are safe and do not pose a threat. The World Health Organization has endorsed NCC’s conclusions.
